Policeman who allegedly punched and stabbed an alleged paedophile has been remanded in custody after being charged with assault.
The court heard the alleged offender, who was remanded at the scene, was the same man who allegedly attacked the man he was with on the night of March 18.
Detective Senior Sergeant Brian Smith said the offender, a 30-year-old man, was in a “bargaining position” and would not be arrested.
The man allegedly assaulted the man, who is aged in his 30s, on the street in the Brisbane CBD.
Police said the alleged attacker had a history of assaults on young men and women.
The accused was arrested on March 21 and charged with a number of offences, including assaulting a person in a public place, assault occasioning bodily harm and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The alleged offender is expected to appear in the Magistrates Court on May 5.
Police say the victim suffered a fractured jaw and bruising on his face, but no serious injuries.
