If you are a regular visitor to 'Roshsrambles', you know that for the past 2 years I have been brushing my teeth with non-fluoride based toothpaste, namely toothy tabs from Lush Cosmetics and Oil-Pulling with Coconut Merchant organic coconut oil.
Last week my sister brought home Aloe Dent, a fluoride-free minty natural toothpaste.
“Aloe Dent Triple Action Aloe Vera Toothpaste with CO Q10 represents the latest in natural, powerful tooth care harnessing the very best that nature has to offer. CoQ10 is a substance naturally found in every cell in the body, but our bodies produce it more slowly as we age. This minty fresh all-natural toothpaste boosts its effective cleaning formula with CoQ10. Offering triple action, Aloe Dent Triple Action toothpaste cleans and protects your teeth and gums naturally.”
As the name suggests it contains Aloe Vera which is less harsh on teeth and gums compared to commercially popular toothpaste brands and Tea Tree Oil which helps to fight bacteria. A recent study showed how Aloe Vera based gel toothpastes demonstrated superior antibacterial effect compared to two commercially popular brands: Colgate and Palmolive.
I decided to try it out to see if this natural toothpaste could make me part from my beloved toothy tabs. What I noticed from the first time using Aloe Dent is that unlike toothy tabs, this natural toothpaste is extremely minty and has the consistency of commercial gel toothpaste such as Colgate Blue Minty but without the presence of fluoride, obviously. I used my Oral B electric toothbrush and Aloe Dent toothpaste every morning and night for a week, and found that the overall freshness of my breath lasted a lot longer than with the toothy tabs. The aftertaste isn't chalky like I have found with some of the other well-known brands and you can feel confident knowing that not only is this toothpaste refreshing it is also a more effective and healthier alternative. I'd rate this toothpaste a solid 4/5, I will continue to use Aloe Dent while interchanging with my toothy tabs.
Aloe Dent is available in most health stores including Holland & Barrett and on Amazon UK RRP ranges from £2.50 to £4.00 per 100ml tube.
