Pucker Up!

Winter is here ladies and gents and allegedly it's here to stay for up to 100 days. Forecasts predict, heavy snow, blistering winds and sub-zero temperatures. As we all know these Arctic climates are not kind to our lips, so in order to keep them looking luscious, moist and healthy why not try out my inexpensive DIY lip care routine!

At the end of every week I exfoliate my lips using a home-made mixture, here is what you'll need:

-The juice of half a fresh lemon
- 6 tablespoons of Unrefined Brown Sugar
- 1 tablespoon of Olive Oil
- 1 tablespoon of Clear Honey

An old Honey Jar
If you want to have your scrub on the go in a mini lip balm containers

The Benefits of these Ingredients
- Lemon Juice, a natural source of Vitamin C which helps skin cells to repair themselves.
- Unrefined Brown Sugar , a natural exfoliator, helping to remove traces of dead skin cells, giving your lips a smoother feel and appearance.
- Olive Oil, very high in Vitamin E, which helps to promote healthy skin and also doubles as a moisturiser and conditioner.
- Pure Honey, contains anti-bacterial properties helping to prevent the break out of cold sores.

- In a bowl mix together the Lemon Juice and Olive Oil
- Add the honey until the ingredients bind together
- Once a medium thick consistency has been achieved add the sugar
- Add more sugar if your lips need a little extra TLC!

Rub all over lips for around 30 seconds to 1 minute, making sure you are targeting the sides to avoid them dreaded cracked lips. After application rinse off with lukewarm water pat dry and apply a thick layer of your preferred Lip Balm (I use Carmex original) mixed with Pure Coconut oil; coconut oil functions as a mild sunscreen (even in Winter UV rays can still damage your skin), so you've got to protect that pout.

KAPOW, you and your buffed lips are ready to face anything The Cold Hearted Mother Nature breezes your way! (K)

FYI. This home-made mixture can also double as a face mask for oily skin!

So after hours of trailing the internet and countless ethnic hair blogs, I was intrigued to hear about the benefits Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO) had not only for hair growth and smooth skin but for eyebrows and eyelashes growth. Many advocates of JBCO praised it for stimulating the growth of thick eyebrows (think Cara Delevingne) and fanned out elongated eyelashes. However, none of the blogs I read had photographic evidence of said progress, so me being the sceptic that I am choose to see for myself.

This is the JBCO I use.

After years of falling asleep with my mascara on, my eyelashes are dry, crumpled and tbh favour ants legs, even with mascara on (I use ScandalEyes by Rimmel) they still do not have the dramatic wow effect I desire. My eyebrows are ok I've never threaded them or plucked them (big up you ladies who can withstand the pain) so they're not too bad but there is nothing wrong with an extra thickness.

The blogs I read stated that you should begin to see progress between 2-4 weeks of applying JBCO to your eyebrows and eyelashes everyday; morning and before you go to bed. I started this morning and will reapply to my eyelash roots and eyebrows again tonight.

I'll keep you all updated with my progress. Fingers crossed!!
